TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST

..Today’s Weather Outlook:
..Good Morning.
..This morning we have clear skies with a East to Southeast wind. Temperatures will be a little cooler today and as we head into the weekend.
..A Spring Storm will be moving into the SoCal Region by tomorrow night bringing a mix of weather with it. Currently, an area of Low pressure is off of the Washington and Oregon Coast and will be sliding South to a point of Central California by tomorrow night. Here we can expect to see increasing clouds tomorrow, with gusty SE winds along with rain beginning late in the evening. Ridge Fog should begin to develop by tomorrow afternoon in advance of this storm.
..LOOKING AHEAD:
..As we head into the Easter weekend, Rain and or snow will be the weather outlook for the entire weekend. Rain will be likely to begin by late Friday night as the storm moves closer to SoCal. By Saturday morning heavy Rain with Snow above the 5000′ level can be expected.
..The snow levels will vary from the 5000-5500′ level Saturday through the afternoon before lowering to the ~4500-5000′ level by late in the afternoon Saturday through Monday morning. Heavy Snow can be expected above the 6000′ level with up to 6-12″ for the Twin Peaks and other areas at or about the 6000′ level. For the higher elevations above 6500′ 12-20″ is likely as it looks now.
..Rainfall amounts below the freezing level area expected to be from 2-5″ along the West and South facing slopes. So this will have some impact on the local streams and creeks with flooding possible through the weekend. The Freezing levels will fluctuate from the 4500-6000′ level, so there will be periods of Rain followed by Snow and possibly followed by more Rain to make for very difficult driving conditions across the mountains. Along with the Rain and Snow, there will also be Thunderstorms at times to make for periods of potentially very heavy Rain and or Snow, Saturday and Sunday morning. NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE! This will be a strong Spring Storm that will bring a variety of weather to the Mountains.
..Driving conditions will be poor at best throughout the storm. County and State crews will be out all weekend so give them plenty of room to work as they clear the roads of snow and debris from this storm.
..Spring storms are much like Cut Off Lows as far as the difficulty in forecasting what they will do. In my 40 plus years on this mountain, I’ve seen seemingly weak areas of Low pressure slide South along the coast with very little dynamics, turn into a major storm for SoCal, as well as exactly the opposite. So Springtime has it’s challenges in forecasting the weather. This forecast is how I see it this morning, and as always there will be another update tomorrow morning.
..CRYSTALL BALL OUTLOOK:
..By Monday most of this storm will have passed and we will be in a clearing out period. Temperatures will be warming up rapidly in true Spring fashion through Thursday.
..We could see daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 50s by Wednesday and Thursday. But don’t get to excited as another storm is possible for the Weekend, once again with low elevations snow levels. This flip flop of Highs and Lows is typical for our area during the Spring season.
..That will do it for today. Have a nice day and enjoy our unique mountain weather. RC
