TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:
Today’s Outlook for Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino Mountains.
Widespread rain is falling across the IE this morning. Locally the temperatures as of 5am is 32* in Big Bear, and 35* in Green Valley Lake. So the snow levels are still pretty high, from the 6700-7000′ level. An area of Low pressure will slowly move through SoCal today. Rain with Fog, Clouds, along with gusty winds across the mountain, will make for poor driving conditions today. Rocks and debris will likely be on the local roads so be careful driving. The snow levels will remain pretty high however, currently there are a few thunderstorms with lightning offshore. As the core of the Low moves onshore later today, we could see a Thunderstorm locally which will bring the possibility of much lower elevation snow or hail to the area. As always, be prepared for winter driving at all times this time of year! Rainfall amounts at my location as of 4:30am is .90″ storm total. My automated raingauge is on the blink, so this is from a standard raingauge and is the correct reading. I always use a backup to the automated one. As this Low moves through today, we can expect from .50-1.50″ of additional rainfall for the local mountain area. The South facing slopes may see more due to enhanced moisture along those areas. Gusty winds with occasional heavy rain will be the days forecast. All of this will clear out on Friday making for a nice weekend along with warmer temperatures through Monday. RC
