TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:
Yesterday turned out to be a real scorcher around the IE. Palm Springs broke an all time record of 120* by one degree for a high of 121*!! Today will be a little cooler.
..High clouds will fill the sky today from the South East as upper level moisture moves through the area from left over Thunderstorms over the Sonoran Desert. There will be a chance for Virga or maybe even a rain drop or two at the higher elevations this morning as the main moisture band pushes through. For this afternoon, there may be enough CAPE to warrant a chance for a random Thunderstorm toward the Big Bear area as well as the Desert slopes of the San Bernardino Mountains. At this time that looks pretty iffy but things can change.
.. With the cloud cover we will see temperatures lower by several degrees from yesterday’s Daytime Highs.
..As mentioned, the moisture is at the 15,000 and up levels in the atmosphere currently, below that level the atmosphere is very dry. I have 11% at my location and Lake Arrowhead and Twin Peaks are showing 22% this morning. So it is dry at the lower elevations so far. The moisture will fill in to the 10,000-12,000 foot level later today. So the cloud cover will likely thicken as well.
..If you are out in the back country today, be aware for the possibility of rapidly changing weather conditions as this air mass works its way through. The PWAT levels are not particularly high at 1.14″ today, CAPE is expected to be under 500j/kg which is moderately low, so the chance for T-Storms should stay low today.
..Tomorrow the skies will have less clouds and temperatures will be cooler again as a Trough of low pressure approaches the West Coast.
..The cooling trend will continue through Saturday with a slight bump Thursday in temperatures.
..We will be under the influence of a West Coast Trough into the weekend so the temperatures will be much nicer through the period.
..I will be keeping an eye on the sky today and will post as needed updates on the Facebook page, Lake Gregory Weather Group.
..That’s it for now. *RC
