Today’s Forecast for Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino Mountains.
Good Morning.
Onshore flow will continue today through the next several days with gusty South West winds at times. Humidity levels will be low again today but will begin to recover Monday and through the week ahead. High pressure over SoCal that has brought the latest heat wave to SoCal will slowly weaken today. Temperatures for the mountain will begin to lower in the days ahead as the area of High pressure shifts West and an area of Low pressure builds to our North. By Wednesday the trough of Low pressure will be off of Central California bringing temperatures down to the 70s for most local areas. Skies will remain clear through the next five days with the exception of Coastal fog that will creep into the Valley by Tuesday morning. At this time no rain is in the Forecast window for our area. the Atlantic Hurricane center has Florence arriving to the Carolinas by Thursday night or Friday morning as a major Hurricane. TODAY’S FORECAST GRAPHICS:

TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

Today’s Forecast for Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino Mountains.
Good Morning.
Today we will have clear skies with warm temperatures across the area. Highs today will be in the upper 80s to low 90s across the area. This is due to an area of High pressure expanding from the West which will peak today along with the daytime high temps. Tomorrow, we will begin a slow cool down as high pressure weakens, and an area of Low pressure begins to build to our North. We will have a South West wind flow for the next several days along with very low humidity levels. With the exception of fog along the immediate coastline, all areas in SoCal will have clear skies today.
Hurricane season is full swing currently. This morning there are several disturbances in the Atlantic, and two in the Pacific. Hurricane Olivia is headed for Hawaii, and will make landfall there Wednesday as a Tropical Storm, most likely. On the Atlantic side, Hurricane Florence is forecast to make landfall along the Carolinas Thursday as a Major Hurricane. Behind florence are two more disturbances, TD9, and Helene. Both are expected to become Hurricanes in the coming days. The forecast tracks for these systems is posted at the lower section of the page(website only). On the long range trends, We may see a storm around the 24th of this month. The long range models this morning show an interesting picture of things to come. A Trough of Low pressure is forecast to move south along the West Coast from the North at the same time a dying Hurricane is forecast to move along the West Coast from the South. They are forecast to meet over SoCal around the 24th. Currently, the SST’s off of San Diego are running around 80* which has been the topic of much discussion in relation to the Hurricane season, as Hurricanes need water temps of 80* or more to sustain. Hmmm? So the models show a fast moving Hurricane sliding North along the Coast of Mexico and Baja at the same time as the trough of Low pressure moves south along the West Coast from the North. This could get very interesting. We’ll see. Watch for further updates as we get closer to that timeframe. This is a long way out, but this is what we have been watching for due to the anomalously warm water off of SoCal this Summer. Have a good day! RC

Yesterday’s High and Low temperatures were:
Crestline-90-58*, Twin Peaks-89/63*, Lake Arrowhead-89/68*, Running Springs-82/67*, Big Bear-81/43*, San Bernardino-102/67*.
Average local temps for today are: 52*-78*. MIN-37*(1965) MAX-90*-(1979)

Forecast Temperatures for the next three days:

TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

Today’s Forecast for Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino Mountains.
Good Morning.
Today we will begin a warm up for a couple days as a Sub-Tropical area of High pressure to our West, moves over SoCal. Temperatures for the local area will most likely rise around 5 degrees from what they have been running. We may see a few areas into the 90-92* range but most areas should remain in the upper 80s for the daytime high temperatures, today and Saturday. Sunday looks like temperatures will begin to cool off as the area of High pressure weakens and a West Coast Trough begins to take shape offshore. This will strengthen the onshore flow for Monday also helping to increase the Marine layer for early in the work week ahead. On the longer range outlook, not much to talk about there. A slow cooling trend will continue through next week as the West Coast Trough develops but I don’t see much of a change for the next five days. Have a good day! RC

Yesterday’s High and Low temperatures were:

TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

Today’s Forecast for Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino Mountains.
Good Morning.
High pressure now to our West, will begin to expand East over SoCal today. This should peak Saturday along with temperatures for the local area. We could pick up a brief period of gusty Northeast winds Friday morning as the High expands over the area. Temperatures will be the biggest change locally as daytime highs reach into the mid to upper 80s* and possibly a few areas into the low 90s by Saturday/Sunday. Overnight lows will recover pretty good with temperatures into the 50s and 60s expected overnight through Saturday night. Skies will remain mostly clear with a only a few cumulus clouds in the afternoon hours. No Thunderstorms are expected through the weekend for the mountain areas. Monday a cooling trend should return to the area as a trough of low pressure develops to our North and pushes out the area of High pressure once again. At this time, there is no sign of any rain in the long range outlook for SoCal. Have a good day! RC

TODAY’S FORECAST GRAPHICS:

TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

Today’s Forecast for Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino Mountains.
Good Morning.
Yesterday we had lots of clouds around but I didn’t see any reports of lightning activity locally. Today, we will again have some cumulus clouds form in the afternoon hours along the mountain ridges. No Storms are expected today. A warming trend will begin tomorrow as High pressure builds in from the West across SoCal. The models have backed down from the heat forecast for next week, let’s hope that holds. So the warm up will begin Thursday with highs into the mid to upper 80s locally and near 100* in the Valley. Saturday should be the warmest day of this week with daytime highs around 85-92*. Friday as the high builds across the area, we will have around a 24hour window of possible North East winds. The FIRE DANGER LEVELS will be elevated at that time, however these winds are not expected to be strong, just dry with wind gusts from 5-15mph. For next week, another trough of Low pressure is now expected to develop along the west coast bringing in a cooling trend through the week beginning Monday. So this should be a short heat wave for the next few days. Hurricanes on both coasts are active but currently there is no threat to land for the next few days in either basin. So far this morning, the Marine Layer has not reached the IE. Fog and low clouds will stay closer to the coastal areas for the next several days as the heat builds inland. Have a good day! RC

Crestline-84-57*, Twin Peaks-80/63*, Lake Arrowhead-83/64*, Running Springs-78/61*, Big Bear-75/40*, San Bernardino-90/63*.
Average local temps for today are: 53*-79*. MIN-41*(1985) MAX-93*-(1955)

TODAY’S FORECAST GRAPHICS:

TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

Today’s Forecast for Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino Mountains.
Good Morning.
Today we have a weak trough over the West that will help to keep the temperatures Fall like through Thursday. Below, fog has again filled the Valley, but should clear out to a hazy day later this morning. We may see some clouds building across the mountains today as PWAT-(1.24″) and CAPE-(655j/kg) and the K-Index-(32) have all risen to weak T-Storm potential. So we will likely see cumulus clouds and possibly Towering Cumulus in some areas today with a slight chance for a shower or T-Storm. Tomorrow things will begin to change as an area of High pressure now to our West will expand over SoCal by Thursday. Friday temperatures will return to the low to mid 80s across the area as High pressure moves over SoCal. This area of High pressure will remain stationary through the middle to end of next week. So expect to have above normal temperatures locally through the period beginning Friday. At this time, there doesn’t appear to be any influx of Monsoonal Moisture as the High will expand from the West with dry air, not the East where the moist Monsoonal flow comes from. Also. Friday morning we will likely have a short period of Northeast winds across the area with low humidity levels so be extra careful as the Fire Danger will be EXTREME for a 24-36 hour period. On the long range crystal ball outlook, we may see the remnants of a Hurricane move North along the Baja Coast around the 15th of September and into SoCal.Hmmm?
Today’s FIRE DANGER level remains VERY HIGH. Have a good day! RC

TODAY’S FORECAST GRAPHICS:

TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

Today’s Forecast for Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino Mountains.
Good Morning.
We will only see minor changes in our weather for the next couple of days. The Marine layer has moved Inland to the foothills below, and deepened to around the 2500-3000′ level this morning. Hazy skies will be the forecast for the Valley while we have nice clear skies here. Light and variable winds today along with a few clouds will make for a really nice end of the long weekend. Temperatures will stay close to the 80* mark today through Wednesday. Then as High pressure expands over SoCal, temperatures will be on the rise through the next five days, beginning Wednesday. The Marine layer will retreat to the coast as temperatures rise. There doesn’t appear to be a return of the Monsoonal moisture in the near future so the chances for Thunderstorms locally will be minimal, unless something changes. Hurricane Norman revived itself yesterday to a CAT4, but is now a CAT 2, and headed toward Hawaii, but will vere North of the Islands according to the latest models. The Atlantic region is gearing up for a series of Tropical storms and possible a couple of Hurricanes over the ten days. That will be worth watching. Nothing here along the West Coast as far as Tropical weather.

Another nice Fallish morning. The surface pressure across the area is, Tonopah-1011.4, Daggett-1006.8, and at San Diego-1011.2. So we will continue to have an onshore flow west of the mountains and a NE to Easterly flow along the 395 corridor as well as along some of the local ridges. Temperatures across the area will remain about the same through Wednesday. Troughing to the North of SoCal, and an area of High pressure off the Coast of SoCal, will keep us in a mostly zonal flow through Wednesday.
Early morning fog will move Inland to the bottom of the hill each day through Wednesday, as it is this morning up to the ~2500′ level. Wednesday through Saturday the area of High pressure to or West will begin to expand and strengthen to around 594dm. This will bring in warmer temperatures for the period. Then a large area of Low pressure will set up in the Gulf of Alaska bringing a weather pattern change to the West Coast. Cooler temperatures will return late next weekend. Meanwhile, two weak Hurricanes will develop in the Eastern Pacific and head towards Hawaii. At this time, the projected path will take them both just North of the Islands, but is worth watching over the next few days. The Atlantic is waking up as well with a couple of Tropical disturbances developing there. Meteorological Fall has arrived. This is the peak of hurricane season for the Atlantic and gulf region.

The early morning temperatures were a little Fallish this morning! I woke up to 49* here in Crestline, and Big Bear had a chilly 35*! An area of Low pressure
has developed over our area drawing in the cool air to the mountain region overnight. On the bigger picture, a Trough of Low pressure will set up just to our North and remain stationary through around Tuesday. This will keep our temperatures cool for the next few days. Daytime high temps will run from the mid 70s to low 80s through Tuesday with overnight lows in the 40s and 50s except for the higher elevations where temps will dip into the 30s to low 40s at times. We will likely see some cumulus clouds form across the area as the Low sits over the local area. Wednesday looks like a transitional day as High pressure now to our West will begin to expand over all of SoCal. This will bring in a warming trend for Thursday through Saturday. Then a return to cooler weather fo the latter part of next weekend. For the Coastal and Valley areas, morning low clouds and fog will develop during the morning hours and possibly fill in to the local Valleys by Monday morning. There doesn’t appear to be any monsoonal intrusion for our area over the next few days so the chances for a T-Storm will remain unlikely. For the Tropical outlook, The Atlantic is finally waking up with two possible Tropical systems for next week that could impact the Gulf region and the Eastern Seaboard. Locally in the Eastern Pacific, Hurricane Norman went from a CAT4 yesterday, to a CAT2 this morning, as he heads out to sea. Another system is developing to our South but it too looks like it will head to far West to have any effect on our weather. With the SST’s as warm as they are along San Diego, and south, I’m surprised we haven’t had any Tropical storms move North along the Coast of Baja into the SoCal area.
Today’s FIRE DANGER level remains VERY HIGH. Have a good day! RC
